AutoBridge

Privacy policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Draft — under legal review. This policy describes how AutoBridge works today and is not yet final.

AutoBridge runs a car marketplace and the business tools behind it, on the web and in the AutoBridge Android app. This policy explains what personal information we keep, why, who sees it, and how to have it deleted.

1. What we collect

  • Your account: your name, phone number, email address if you give one, and your password, which is stored scrambled so nobody can read it.
  • A business application: the business name, type, city, woreda and TIN, and the trade licence, TIN certificate, Fayda ID and kebele ID you upload.
  • An insurance request you send: your name and phone, the plate, the vehicle and its value, the documents you attach and your payment reference.
  • What businesses record about their customers: dealers, lenders and insurers keep names, phone numbers, ID numbers and documents for sales, loan applications, insurance and title transfers.
  • Vehicles: VIN, plate, photos, papers and the name of the title owner.
  • Payments: the references Chapa gives us. Card and mobile-money details are entered on Chapa's own page, and we never see them.

2. How we use it

To run your account and the services you use: listing and selling cars, loan and insurance applications, payments, and the records the law requires dealers to keep.

We do not sell personal information, and the app shows no advertising.

3. Who sees it

  • Banks, microfinance institutions and insurers see the applications sent to them.
  • Shoppers see a business's name, cars and phone number on its public listings. A private seller's name and phone number are not shown.
  • Chapa processes payments, and may receive the business name and email address on a payment.
  • The Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA) and the registration, transport and customs offices receive dealers' declarations, stock, sale filings and title transfers, through a connection that records every access.
  • Our hosting and backup providers store the data for us.
  • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, so your browser contacts Google when a page loads.

4. Where it is kept

On servers outside Ethiopia, with encrypted backups made every night.

5. How long we keep it

  • Your account information, for as long as your account is open.
  • When you delete your account, your name, phone number, email address and ID number are removed at once.
  • Records reported to ERCA — sale filings, declarations, title transfers and import records — are kept as the law requires, and so are payment records and insurance an insurer was paid for.
  • Backups are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.

6. Your choices

You can correct your details at any time on your profile, or on My account if you work for a business, and you can delete your account there yourself.
